Malleable Architectures for Adaptive Computing MIT9904-04

چکیده
Our research over the past two years has focussed on malleable caches and processors for data-intensive computing. We have worked closely with a researcher at NTT on improving the memory and caching needs of speech applications. Hiroshi Sawada, our NTT colleague, visited us last year for about six months, and reported on collaborative work at the NTT Japan meeting in January. Hiroshi is now examining more sophisticated speech processing techniques and we feel that proper memory hierarchy management is even more important. In particular, the NTT team that Hiroshi is a part of is trying to separate different conversations from the same audio stream. Such an application is a combination of stream processing with complex tablelookup actions. It is precisely the combination of these two types of memory access patterns, that we found to be problematic on current microprocessors in our previous research. We developed cache control instructions to solve this problem in the past year (briefly described below), and believe that our techniques will enable such real-time speech processing. For applications that are memory intensive, a memory-centric approach to processing is needed.

Malleable Architectures for Adaptive Computing MIT9904-04 Proposal for 1999-2000 Funding
Existing general-purpose microprocessors and digital signal processors do not meet all the needs of intelligent personal devices, multimedia and advanced communication applications. Designing special-purpose chips for each application is typically not feasible due to expensive fabrication costs and long turnaround time. A large reconfigurable device with appropriate tools and infrastructure may...
متن کاملNusselt Number Estimation along a Wavy Wall in an Inclined Lid-driven Cavity using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS)
In this study, an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) was developed to determine the Nusselt number (Nu) along a wavy wall in a lid-driven cavity under mixed convection regime. Firstly, the main data set of input/output vectors for training, checking and testing of the ANFIS was prepared based on the numerical results of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Then, the ANFIS was develope...
متن کاملReliability and Performance Evaluation of Fault-aware Routing Methods for Network-on-Chip Architectures (RESEARCH NOTE)
Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. This paper presents reliabili...
متن کاملWork in Progress: Malleable Software Pipelines for Efficient Many-core System Utilization
This paper details our current research project on the efficient utilization of many-core systems by utilizing applications based on a novel kind of software pipelines. These pipelines form malleable applications that can change their degree of parallelism at runtime. This allows not only for a well-balanced load, but also for an efficient distribution of the cores to the individual, competing ...
متن کاملMalleable Multimedia Presentations: Adaptive Streaming Tradeoffs for Best-Quality Fast-Response Systems
The evolution of today’s computer networks to higher bandwidths and increased connectivity to a wider range of end-user devices will further exacerbate the need for adaptive streaming solutions. Motivated by these adaptive streaming techniques, we introduce the notion of a malleable presentation and outline a framework for the transmission of such presentations across heterogeneous networks to ...
